Drivers needed!

Come help St. David's and the Ashburn community in 2022.

St. David’s Church and School has committed to support around 100 students at three local schools each week during the 2021-2022 school year through the Backpack Buddies program.

For those not familiar with this program, Backpack Buddies is designed to provide children experiencing food insecurity with nutritious, kid-friendly, pre-packed meals for the weekend—when they would not have access to a school’s free lunch and breakfast. We need your help restocking our shelves, packing bags and delivering food bins each week for students at Cedar Lane Elementary, Discovery Elementary and Broad High School. Please look over the opportunities below. Thanks in advance for your support!

On Wednesdays at noon, a small group, until recently including Rev Mary Kay, meets for about an hour to pray silently in the sanctuary of the church. After catching each other up on our lives, we quietly listen for 20 minutes to the rustlings of the spirit within our hearts and minds.

We are living through some turbulent, often stressful, times in our nation, our church and our families. We believe that beneath the surface ripples and rapids, a river flows smoothly in its channel where God is. Centering prayer helps us focus on the depth of the flowing river and not be distracted by the ripples and rapids above and helps us “live without fear”.

While we meditate silently, we do this as a group because we know that prayer and faith are not just private, solitary journeys where we can do it all alone; where we don’t need support. We pray together because no one stands alone in God’s presence.

If you are searching for a quiet time during the week to focus on listening to the whispers of the Spirit moving through your life, where you can find clarifying insight for your mind and heart, come join us at 12pm on Wednesdays in the church sanctuary.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are most welcome here.

We are returning to passing the collection plate during our Sunday services to accept your financial offerings to the glory of God and in thanks for our abundance. Paused when COVID hit, based on guidance from the diocese and doctors in our midst, we are now comfortable passing the plate.

The pennies, dimes, dollar bills and an occasional twenty of “loose cash” offerings all add up. In pre-pandemic 2019, the church received a generous $21,000 in such offerings. In the past year, with our doors mostly re-opened, but with the un-passed offering plate sitting in the narthex, we received $2,100 in loose cash. The 2022 budget assumes loose cash revenue of $5,000. The change you have in your pockets will go l long way towards us meeting this goal! Just one more step back to “normal” in the life of St. David’s.

Did you know❓❓❓

✝️ Easter isn’t just one day ✝️
✝️ It is a season that lasts 50 days ✝️

The next 50 days should be celebrated as a single joyful feast. The celebration shouldn’t fizzle out rather it’s only just begun.

💥We are resurrection people 💥

We are heading into Eastertide (or Easter Season, or Easter Time or Paschaltide — all of them work!).

➡️ This is a period of 50 days from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday.
➡️ It’s a time to remember that Jesus wasn’t in a rush to ascend, but that he spent time appearing to his disciples and preparing them for Pentecost.
➡️ This is time to joyfully celebrate the resurrection, share the joy and walk in love

How will you share resurrection joy?
How will you show resurrection ❤️ ?

Today is Holy Saturday.

✝️ On this this last day of Lent, it can be tempting to skip ahead to what comes on Sunday, without giving Holy Saturday its due because we know the rest of the story. 🛑

Today is Holy Saturday.
It is the day of in between.
A threshold day.
A day of sorrow and bewilderment.

❓What if we sat ourselves down with the women opposite the tomb, and listened to their grief and longing, and waited with them
❓What if we hide with the disciples comforting one another as we lament and try to understand
❓When times of darkness come in our own lives, and we don’t know the rest of the story, how does what Jesus has done for us give us hope

Let this day, this waiting bless you.

Altar Guild members are needed! Do you enjoy setting the table for meals? This is an opportunity for you (yes, you 😊) to set God’s table!!

Join a small team and help set up and cleanup the altar for Sunday services. Training can be at your convenience and usually takes less than an hour. If you are looking for ways to contribute to St. David’s, Altar Guild requires a minimal time commitment and does not affect your Sunday worship time; but is vital to worship at St. David’s.

If interested or if you have questions, please contact Margaret Anderson or Katie Graham at the main office (703)729-0570.

Five Root Values provide the enduring standard for life in covenant community. Rising out of the Ten Commandments, they point the way to maturity in faith and practice. When embraced by individuals committed in covenant relationship to God and one another, they shape behavior that creates a social environment where God's blessing flows freely.

The Root Values also provide the foundation for healthy families, caring schools and a more compassionate and empowered workplace.

The Five Root Values are:

• People
• Commitment
• Autonomy
• Truth
• Legacy
